Albums that caught my attention whilst wedding planning

You know, every year a crap ton of music is released upon us. It comes at us locally, nationally, internationally, signed and unsigned. As the year draws to an end, we torture ourselves in creating these top whatever lists, to tell our readers what we enjoyed listening to throughout the year. Sure, it can be ruthless, but it’s fun nonetheless! I try to listen to as much as possible so as to give an honest, as honest as one can get, list of what caught my attention. As many of you know, I got married a couple months ago, and while that didn’t put a damper on my listening to music it did keep me pre-occupied as to my really diving into album releases. Really, that makes my best of, a list of albums that caught my attention while wedding planning. Forgive me as I do dabble in many genres, so there might be more than 10 or 20 or maybe even 100, I don’t really know?!? Just bare with me and check out some of the music I’ve enjoyed! If you made the list, congratulations, you caught my attention long enough for me to remember that you were released in the chaos that is created in wedding planning!!

Local Artists:

Hell NightHell Night Songs EP
Hell NightCancercise EP
Fister/ChrchSplit EP
RailhazerThe Null and The Void
AhzidalWhere the Shadows Lie EP
XaemoraPandemonium’s Ocean

I am sure there were plenty more, for not listing you I’m sorry.  It was extremely hard to focus on things, including local bands with cd releases this year. I tried remembering as much as possible, but there was just so much going on this year that if you didn’t hand me a physical copy or plaster my Facebook wall with flyers, then I missed out. This year FLEW by!!!

Albums that caught my attention in 2017:

I will admit, I was late to the game in hearing some of these. Upon listening to them, all I can say is DAMN where the fuck was I on these releases??? I will mark those particular albums with an asterisk (*). Like I said, there was a crap ton of metal to come out and I dabble in quite a few different genres. I would have made a list for each genre, but there might have been some that were short winded. I am leaving the numbers off as I said, for a couple of reasons.

1.) I didn’t have access to my typical stereo setup to truly blast and give a lot of these albums a chance.
2.) Sometimes its just tough to pick what I favored over other albums. It isn’t even about being fair. . . I barely know the members names of half these bands so what do I care whose feelings get hurt?? But, if we’re being real a lot of these would be neck and neck in a race for best album.

That’s a lot of fucking music, some of which you should all really check out if you haven’t! All in all 2017 was a solid year for metal. We got solid releases from Kreator, Mastodon, and Steven Wilson, but that’s a given. I mean seriously, I would be SHOCKED if any of those bands/artists released anything less than average. Bands that surprised me most with their album release were, Cavalera Conspiracy, The Faceless, and Veil of Maya. Of the bands that I “slept on” I highly suggest checking out Dvne, Xanthochroid, God Mother, Timeworn, Dawn Ray’d, Nightbringer and Aosoth. While some are new bands to me, some of them released albums that I never got around to listening to, until well after their release. And trust me you do NOT want to sleep on these albums. And lastly, Tchornobog, if for the album art alone should be on everyone’s list of bands to keep an eye out for. Their Sci-Fi  themed doom metal self-titled release is not to be fucked with! As I draw this to a close, I hope you were able to grab some bands you might’ve been less familiar with and added them to your current rotation of music. While I didn’t get to dive as deep into these releases as I would’ve liked, they did pull me away from some of my wedding planning, or got released shortly there after.

*Though we are a couple days into 2018, I can assure you there is a TON of good shit coming from Damnation in the coming year! We hope you can keep up!
