Photo Gallery: Gorguts @ Fubar (St. Louis, Mo)

Hello ladies and germs, it has been a while since I, Nick, have posted anything on the page. Things have been pretty crazy, my fiance and I had to move a bit sooner than we anticipated into a new apartment, due to a shitty landlord. That caused me to get a little backed up on photo projects. But with this show I am back at it and ready to get to my back catalogue here in the coming weeks. I truly have been wanting to get back in the swing of things, especially with our recent upswing of fans, the acquiring of new writers for the site, as well as new promotions we have been working around the clock to truly make Damnation Magazine your one stop shop for all things Metal.

Ever since this show took place, I am still in doubt that there will ever be a band more precise and proficient live than Gorguts. Straight from Quebec, Canada the Tech Death masters that call themselves Gorguts are the hidden gem of metal, that isn’t hidden at all. Gorguts have been around for almost 30 years and in that time have not only perfected their skills and talents in the studio, they bring it at 110% when performing for a live audience just the same. You really wouldn’t expect much different for a band that has been around as long as they have, however, their skill is unmatched by any other bands around, nearing one of our personal favorites, Devin Townsend.

The night kicked off with Columbia, Mo masterminds, Legend. Having had the pleasure to watch them a few times, it was great to see them opening up for a show that was sure to be a memorable one. Little did I know how accurate that would actually be. After Legend, was a local act I had been dying to see for a while, Alan Smithee. Performing under the lowest of light settings, just bright enough to get a few photos and just dark enough to set the mood for their Converge like performance (loud and chaotic).

Next up was a band I was unfamiliar with before the show was announced, Exist. Immediately, upon seeing their name, I did what any normal metal head would do with a band they were unfamiliar with, listened to them on Spotify and Bandcamp to see what was going to be thrust upon me. I was very pleased with what I heard and could hardly wait to see them perform their songs live. What I didn’t know was how well their songs translated live. I, amongst the hundred or so other people at the venue, fell witness to one of the greatest up and coming prog acts to emerge from the scene in a long time. Baltimore, MD’s Exist were not only great at what they do, but they are a band that you just want to continue watching day after day.  Needless to say I bought their new album on vinyl along with Gorguts Pleiades’ Dust vinyl, and both are spectacular.

Last up, the moment we were all waiting for, Gorguts. The room capacity seemed like it doubled as they took stage and rightfully so, there is no way I would have missed that performance and I can only imagine everyone else there thought the same. From the second they started, Gorguts commanded the crowd and took over with their brilliance. Many of us were dumbfounded at the sheer talent that was upon us, meaning there was no way a band could be that good live, with as technical as their sound is. Not to mention, it sounded better than the fucking cds, which isn’t hard to do since most of their albums were old enough to not have the best quality in production. That being said, Holy Shit if you haven’t seen them live yet, you need to do yourselves a favor and drive to their nearest show and let your jaw hit the floor. You can pick it back up after about an hour and a half.

I am extremely excited to be sharing these photos with you all. As I said before, this is my first post in a couple months for shows, so finally getting back into the swing of things is quite the relief. I hope you enjoy looking through these as much as I did and as always, please feel free to Like, Comment on and Share any of your favorite photos. Until next time!
